Rachel Ray Wears Wrong Scarf
Apparantly, Rachel Ray, the well-known TV chef, was recently seen in a Dunkin’ Donuts ad for their iced coffee. She was wearing, of all things (gasp) a scarf!
To some apparent morons, this scarf appears to them to be a Muslim only garment - like no one else wears scarfs, hmm? Here is a definition of a kaffiyeh as it is:
From http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/kaffiyeh
Etymology:
Arabic kūfīya, kaffīya, from al-Kufa Al-Kufa, town in Iraq
Date:
circa 1817
: an Arab headdress consisting of a square of cloth folded to form a triangle and held on by a cord
Come on, folks, people wear various types of ethnic garments and accessories all over the world, especially here in America where wearing clothes that are made or known to be staples in other countries is our favorite past time! So, just because she is wearing this scarf, all of a sudden she is promoting terrorism? It’s not even clear that it is exactly a kaffiyeh! So much for wearing scarves that look anything like them. Read this excerpt from USA Today:
In the spot, Ray holds an iced coffee while standing in front of trees with pink blossoms.
Critics, including conservative commentator Michelle Malkin, complained that the scarf wrapped around her looked like a kaffiyeh, the traditional Arab headdress. Critics who fueled online complaints about the ad in blogs say such scarves have come to symbolize Muslim extremism and terrorism.
The kaffiyeh, Malkin wrote in a column posted online last Friday, “has come to symbolize murderous Palestinian jihad. Popularized by Yasser Arafat and a regular adornment of Muslim terrorists appearing in beheading and hostage-taking videos, the apparel has been mainstreamed by both ignorant (and not-so-ignorant) fashion designers, celebrities, and left-wing icons.”
…The coffee and baked goods chain said the ad that began appearing online May 7 was pulled over the past weekend because “the possibility of misperception detracted from its original intention to promote our iced coffee.”
The style and patterns don’t even match the well-known, Middle-Eastern design. People can be SO ignorant! So, I guess since I play a doumbek, a Middle-Eastern style drum, and play Middle-Eastern style music, I guess I must be promoting murderous terrorists, huh?
Please don’t support morons like Michell Malkin who is clearly comes off as racist, ignorant, and hateful. We don’t need more hatred, people, we need understanding, knowledge, and friendship. Otherwise, we wind up having these stupid wars and constant violence.
